Monday, January 1st ~ Happy New Year! 2024 begins with a square between Venus and Saturn at 8:26am EST as the first major aspect of the new year. The impact of this transit brings some feelings of icy coldness in relationships, and can make it difficult to feel like love is flowing back and forth. If there is any distance in pairings, it can become more exaggerated seeming. People might be shy and not say exactly what's on their minds.
.
Things improve at 10:07pm EST when Mercury retrograde ends. Mercury is at 22 degrees Sagittarius as it stations direct, and begins to resume its forward motion once more. What a way to start the new year! Mercury direct brings clarity of mind and allows for more fluidity in communication. There are fewer delays and confusing interactions as we navigate the world. We enter the second phase of a Mercury cycle which began on December 22nd. This second phase lasts until the end of February and centers around beginning to put work in on ideas that sparked during the last week of the year.
Thursday, January 4th ~ Mars enters the sign of Capricorn on Thursday, January 4th at 9:58am EST. The red planet will be here in the sign of cardinal earth until February 13th. Mars in Capricorn is slower moving, methodical, and interested in building lasting foundations. Expending too much energy in quick bursts can deplete us during this time. We have better luck pacing our action and moving at a consistent speed. Of course, everyone has a very different natural way of expending energy that is dictated by natal Mars' sign, house, and aspects to other planets. If your own Mars is in a fire or air sign, you may find it frustrating to slow your focus and speed so dramatically. Just remain open to learning from the more gradual motion of the earth signs over the next month and a half. There are gems of wisdom to be found in a slower, steadier approach.
Saturday, January 6th ~ On Saturday, January 6th, the Sun in Capricorn enters a square with Chiron in Aries at 3:35am EST. This cardinal square is bold and abrasive, and can emphasize feelings of unworthiness regarding long term goals or career. The purpose of this transit isn't to break us down or make us feel like we can't accomplish anything. It is here to show us areas where we feel blocked, and allow us a chance to reframe our thinking. Many of these beliefs of "I can't" or "This never works out for me" are passed down generationally, or come from past situations where someone hurt us or didn't champion for our success. It is time to break these cycles and begin the process of building up our own confidence. Go easy on yourself today. If you notice any thoughts that center around critiquing the self, gently nudge yourself away from that thought and replace it with one that feels slightly better. If you are in a place of feeling really down, replacing a thought like "Nothing ever works out for me" with "Everything goes my way" can feel like a lie. However, "I am open to things changing" is a slightly more positive thought that allows for more healing to enter in. Find little steps that allow you to reframe your thinking.
