January Cosmic Calendar

January 2nd: Venus enters Pisces ~ 10:24pm EST
Happy New Year! The first major transit of 2025 occurs on Thursday, January 2nd, at 10:24pm EST, when Venus enters Pisces. The planet of love and beauty will remain in this dreamy sign until February 4th. During this time, there’s a stronger emphasis on fantasy, romance, and idealized notions of love. Venus in Pisces invites us to embrace more whimsical, rose-colored visions of love, allowing us to dream big with the people we care about. It becomes easier to see the best in others and to shape reality in ways that feel more appealing and full of possibility.

Those with natal Venus in water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) or two of the earth signs (Taurus, Capricorn) will likely find this transit particularly harmonious, enjoying its flowing energy. For those with natal Venus in Aries, Leo, Libra, or Aquarius, this transit is more neutral. While they can appreciate the grandeur of this placement, they may not always enjoy the emotional merging that it encourages. Those with natal Venus in Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius may struggle with this transit, as its romantic, idealistic tone can feel a bit too soft and unquestioning for their tastes. A bit of balance and compromise will be needed for them to make the most of this time.

January 3rd: Mars opposite Pluto ~ 2:21am EST ~ 1 degree Leo / Aquarius
On Friday, January 3rd, Mars will re-enter an exact opposition with Pluto at 2:21am EST. This ongoing dynamic, which began a couple of months ago, will continue through April, with these two powerful planets positioned on opposite sides of the sky. This tense aspect can lead to power struggles, conflicts with authority, and a buildup of energy that seeks release. Impatience is likely to surface, and we may feel antsy for things to shift or change.

It’s important to be mindful of the intensity this transit brings. While we may be tempted to rush forward, remember that this energy is explosive. It can feel edgy, volatile, and like we're on the verge of something major. Instead of reacting impulsively, remember that we have the power to influence outcomes and take control of the situation. If significant changes are headed your way, you can step into your personal power and guide the direction. With Mars just days away from retrograding back into Cancer, make the most of the bold, confident energy of Leo in the coming days.

January 6th: Mars re-enters Cancer (Rx) ~ 5:44am EST
On Monday, January 6th, Mars retrogrades back into Cancer at 5:44am EST, where it will complete its retrograde cycle and remain until April. During this retrograde, Mars has been slowing external progress and encouraging us to be more focused and intentional with our energy. Pushing too hard or trying to move forward too quickly can lead to the need for more self-care, rest, or even a forced slowdown, such as injury or illness.

Now that Mars is in Cancer, we may feel a stronger desire to stay home or remain within our comfort zones. Frustrations could arise around family and loved ones, prompting a need for more personal space. Those with significant placements in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will feel the impact most during the second half of this retrograde, while the fixed signs likely felt the effects more strongly earlier on.

January 8th: Mercury enters Capricorn ~ 5:29am EST
On Wednesday, January 8th, Mercury enters Capricorn at 5:29am EST. This is particularly significant because Mercury typically spends about three weeks in a sign, but it lingered in Sagittarius for over two months due to its retrograde. When Mercury stays in a sign for such an extended period, it can lead to a mental block. Mercury is quick and nimble by nature, so remaining in one place for too long can result in mental fog and a sense of spinning our wheels.

With Mercury now in Capricorn, we may feel a renewed sense of inspiration and a fresh burst of mental clarity. Capricorn’s influence makes Mercury direct and no-nonsense, which can help us arrive at ideas more quickly and communicate clearly without confusion. This is also a great energy for goal-setting. Mercury will be in Capricorn until January 27th.

Those with natal Mercury in earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) or two of the water signs (Scorpio, Pisces) will likely find this period particularly harmonious and beneficial for communication, both verbal and written. For those with natal Mercury in Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius, this transit will be more neutral, neither notably positive nor negative. However, those with natal Mercury in Aries, Cancer, or Libra may find it more challenging, as the calm, direct energy of Capricorn may not come naturally. Compromise may be necessary for the best results.

January 11th: Nodes enter Pisces + Virgo ~ 6:01pm EST
On Saturday, January 11th, the Nodes of the Moon change signs at 6:01pm EST. The North Node enters Pisces, while the South Node moves into Virgo. This marks a significant shift, as the nodes will remain in these signs until April 2026. Although the Nodes are not physical bodies, they represent points in the moon’s orbit and hold karmic significance. These points carry powerful energy for souls incarnating during this time and also reflect the current karmic cycle of Earth.

Over the past year and a half, the North Node in Aries has guided us toward greater independence and self-reliance, with a possible rise in the more warlike energy associated with Aries and Mars. As we move into Pisces, the collective focus shifts toward spirituality, intuition, and a deeper sense of compassion and interconnectedness. This transition may encourage us to explore our spiritual paths more deeply, but it could also lead to confusion for those who aren’t already attuned to these energies. There may be a stronger pull to the South Node in Virgo, which is more grounded in practicality and the physical world. However, in order to progress as a collective, we'll need to move toward the North Node in Pisces and all it represents.

Souls incarnating during this next 15-month period will likely be here to evolve spiritually, honing their intuition and trusting their inner guidance. These individuals may be more physically oriented, Mercurial, and curious by nature, which could make spirituality feel unfamiliar or challenging at first.

January 13th: Full Moon in Cancer ~ 5:26pm EST ~ 25 degrees Cancer
On Monday, January 13th, the Full Moon in Cancer will peak at 5:26pm EST at 25 degrees Cancer, with the Sun positioned directly opposite at 25 degrees Capricorn. This Full Moon is emotionally charged, intuitive, and powerful. Since the Moon rules over Cancer, it is particularly strong in this sign. It falls in the third decan of Cancer, which is ruled by Neptune, infusing the energy with a dreamier, more ethereal quality. This can lead to vivid dreams and a desire to escape into fantasy.

The Moon is also sextiling Uranus at the time of its peak fullness, offering an opportunity to expand our vision, embrace new ideas, and think more innovatively. While emotions may feel heightened and intense, embracing these shifts can lead to significant change. Let your emotions rise like the crest of a wave, and see what treasures they bring to shore.

There is a special magic to this Full Moon, and we may find ourselves able to manifest long-held dreams or goals, particularly those related to home, family, or personal roots.

January 19th: Sun enters Aquarius ~ 3:00pm EST
Happy Aquarius Season! On Sunday, January 19th, the Sun enters Aquarius at 3:00pm EST. This marks the midpoint of the season - winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Aquarius, the fixed air sign, symbolizes higher ideals, intellectual curiosity, and a steadfast pursuit of knowledge and understanding.

Aquarius season is the perfect time to think big, dream boldly, and celebrate your individuality. The energy of Aquarius encourages personal growth while keeping an eye on the collective and the impact our actions have on others. It’s a great opportunity to get involved with charitable causes, whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness.

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) tend to feel energized during this season, and two fire signs (Aries and Sagittarius) also thrive on the dynamic energy. For Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn, and Pisces, this season feels more neutral. Fellow fixed signs Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio may face some challenges that require a bit more compromise and balance moving forward.

January 23rd: Mars sextile Uranus ~ 10:07am EST ~ 23 degrees Cancer / Taurus
On Thursday, January 23rd, Mars forms a sextile with Uranus at 10:07am EST. Mars, which retrograded back into Cancer earlier this month, has now reached 23 degrees, while Uranus is at 23 degrees Taurus. This transit has been building since the beginning of the week, and its influence will continue through the weekend.

Mars and Uranus combine to provide bursts of energy, encouraging us to experiment with new approaches. Stagnation is disrupted, and we may face life with greater courage and boldness. It's an ideal time to try out a new style or pursue a fresh goal. Since Mars is currently retrograde, this may involve something we've wanted to do for a while but have been hesitant to start or simply lacked the inspiration to act on.

January 27th: Mercury enters Aquarius ~ 9:52pm EST
On Monday, January 27th, Mercury enters Aquarius at 9:52pm EST, ushering in a very Aquarian week as we approach Wednesday's New Moon in the same sign! Mercury in Aquarius is inventive, innovative, and unique, encouraging us to broaden our horizons and view life from a big-picture perspective. This placement is all about originality and creative thinking, inspiring us to think outside the box. Conversations during this time may be more whimsical and unconventional, yet they can spark valuable insights. Mercury will remain in Aquarius until February 14th.

Those with natal Mercury in Aries, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius will experience a mental boost during this period, receiving new ideas and enjoying smoother communication. For those with natal Mercury in Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn, and Pisces, this is a more neutral period mentally. However, individuals with natal Mercury in Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio may face challenges in being understood and conveying their ideas. To avoid frustration, it will be important to be deliberate and intentional in communication.

January 29th: New Moon in Aquarius ~ 7:35am EST ~ 9 degrees Aquarius
On Wednesday, January 29th, the New Moon in Aquarius peaks at 7:35am EST, occurring at 9 degrees Aquarius in the first decan of the sign, which is ruled by Uranus. This New Moon is also trining Jupiter at its peak, infusing the energy with optimism and hope. It’s an ideal time for thinking big, considering how our actions can benefit the collective, and collaborating with others who share your vision.

While the New Moon phase tends to be more introspective and is a good time for shedding what no longer serves us, it’s also a chance to refine your ideals and work on releasing chaos and confusion. This is a time to set the tone for what you want to manifest, rather than simply reacting to the energy of others. Remember, you can influence the energy of the world around you too!

You may also find this a good opportunity to invest in new technology that supports your goals, and take some time to clean up your devices by organizing files, deleting old data, and tidying up your phone or computer so you can feel more organized and focused moving forward.

January 30th: Uranus Rx ends ~ 11:22am EST ~ 23 degrees Taurus
The last major transit of the month occurs on Thursday, January 30th, when Uranus stations direct at 23 degrees Taurus at 11:22am EST. At this point, only Mars and Jupiter remain retrograde. Uranus spends approximately five months each year in retrograde motion, a period that encourages us to view situations from a new perspective. Over the past several months, there may have been many inner changes, and now that Uranus is direct, we may feel compelled to take action and see external shifts as well.

Uranus retrograde often shifts our inner landscape, bringing fresh insights and preparing us for significant change. Since Uranus is currently in Taurus, these changes may relate to our physical environment, finances, creativity, or career. What transformations have you experienced since September 1st?
